Property Summary
Offered with no onward chain Hlidskjalf is an impressive, striking five bedroom home with one bedroom on the ground floor with en-suite, sitting in four acres of land, with a soft green border of mature trees on three sides, creating a most serene and tranquil setting. These features, plus the edge of village location and the easy access to surrounding towns and beaches, drew the present owners to the property. It has a luxury of space, one acre of south facing garden with a three acre adjoining field with road access, stables for horses and good schools in the area.
The house is full of character with some attractive Scandinavian features that include pine ceilings to the ground floor. The well appointed farmhouse kitchen has high specification appliances for the keen cook and is the busy sociable hub of the home. Chatty meals are enjoyed round the large pine table and the Aga makes it a warm winter refuge, the dining room with doors leading out onto the patio, bringing the outside in. Stairs lead to an upper room which has been a playroom and a teenage den, but is now an office which Lesley says is superb for working from home.
It is a home of space and great comfort and the family have appreciated its peaceful ambience. The lounge is a much loved area where the open Baxi fire is another place to hunker down with picture windows, enabling you to relish views to the enchanting gardens and across the beautiful valley beyond. A hospitable home, guests are easily accommodated in the self contained suite on the ground floor. Whilst on the first floor there are four good sized bedrooms, one with en-suite and the house bathroom.
Hlidskjalf is a fantastic home that is perfect for a family looking for an escape to the countryside, offering stabling and grazing, with easy access to amenities, schools and glorious beaches, it really does offer the best of town and country living.
Seller Insight
The current owners knew Hlidskjalf was the one for them, with its unusual and impressive style and the space surrounding it. Ian and Lesley find it hard to believe that it was thirty two years ago that they first fell in love with Hlidskjalf and that the time has now come to relocate. It has been a fantastic home.
Ian explains that it is the garden they find most enchanting. With a lawn measuring three quarters of an acre and adjoining 3 acre top field, it is the perfect summer entertaining venue. Ian says it has been the happy scene of village barbecues, fundraisers, and many parties. Lesley has loved the garden, whether it is collecting the harvest from the fruit trees, sitting by the small pond with its gurgling water feature, or just listening to bird song. It is a place of still calm where you can savour the beauty around you.
With a family who rode, stabling was created for two to three horses, who happily graze in the field, and there is a good menage and riding school, nearby Treffgarne is a friendly village where social life centres round the village hall. Haverfordwest is four miles away, a selection of beaches a twenty minute drive, and you are surrounded by the glorious Pembrokeshire countryside. It is the best of town and country living.
Ian and Lesley are sad to leave the house with its space, the winter cosiness of the lounge and kitchen: and Lesley adds that practically she will miss the storage space and the amazing two hundred foot rotary washing line where she could hang four machine loads.
However, they feel the biggest miss will be the feeling of serenity that you experience with the house and garden. They take away many very happy memories.
